The plan was that The 1959 show would later be renamed The Hippodrome Show, to be broadcast every third Thursday of the month. The Hippodrome Show would alternate between Granada's Chelsea At Nine and ATV's New Look. It was rumoured in February 1959 that AR had made an approach to get Elvis Presley to appear on the show while he was in the army.

This show was cancelled due to a technicians' strike. They instead played a telerecorded show from 30th April 1958 which featured a reference to Buddy Holly who was still alive at that point and a reference to the song Kewpie Doll "which should be quite a hit".
