It was inferred that a show where viewers telephoned in and requested a song couldn’t be that spontaneous and that the viewers phone calls were never actually heard on the air. However, the show’s producers claimed that since so many songs had ‘eyes’, ‘heart’, ‘love’ etc in the title it was easy to get the scenery set up quickly and besides the Post Office claimed the phone calls wouldn’t be of sufficient quality to broadcast.

ABC Sammy Davis Jr Meets The British 8.00 - 9.00 pm

The original project was to be titled London By Night but that format was abandoned as Davis had commitments to perform two shows a night at the Pigalle in Paris therefore didn't afford ABC time to produce the intended location shots, however they did complete one location shot at Battersea Fun Fair. The show was then recorded in a studio, but for contractual reasons couldn't be broadcast while he was still in the country.

Monday June 27th 1960

The Daily Mirror runs a story pointing out that both BBC and ITV have dropped dedicated rock and roll shows and in the future teenage music will only be included in more general appeal variety shows. Jack Good whose Wham!! was about to be dropped by ABC said "I don't think these programmes have lost their appeal and I'm sorry to see them go. I think British television is making a big mistake." A BBC spokesman talking to The Stage said "Juke Box Jury is to continue but no beat music only programmes have been scheduled".
