TV Pop Diaries
Pop Music on British Television 1955 - 1999

Another short lived pop series for Southern, this time hosted by Shaw "Keep 'Em Peeled" Taylor and Terence Carroll, and directed by Mike Mansfield as were so many of Southern's pop shows (Countdown, As You Like It, Pop The Question, Time For Blackburn, Ladybirds, New Release etc).

Rather than having pop stars turn up to perform their new hit, this show tried to get beneath the skin by examining the music business. The show, made with the working title Golden Boys, was the male take on the pop business, as Ladybirds previously had been for women. Among the artists profiled were Adam Faith, Billy Fury, The Ivy League, Mark Wynter, Kenny Lynch, Tom Jones and The Dave Clark Five. Donovan might have been penciled in for a show, but Tom Jones made himself available instead. As Mansfield told TV Times "As a series, it is obviously not going to be as pretty or sentimental as Ladybirds."

Although it wasn't shown by the whole ITV network it was shown by Tyne Tees and Border later in the year.
