Broadcast from 9.40 - 10.20 pm on the ITV network Come And Get Your Money was a look
at British pop music over the past ten years, starting at The Two I's coffee bar
in London's Soho. Or, as TV Times proffered "England Swings goes the song. If England
does swing - when did the swinging start?"
Starting with Tommy Steele who was interviewed on the set of Disney's The Happiest
Millionaire, producer Johnny Hamp's show talked to the first players in Britain's
rock and roll story - Lionel Bart, Terry Dene, Wally Whyton, Wee Willie Harris, Screaming
Lord Sutch, and Mickie Most who began life as a rocker before becoming Britain's
most successful independent record producer. He is also seen in a recording studio
with Herman's Hermits, who after a session, are beckoned over the studio's speakers
"come and get your money."
Hamp had tried to get Cliff Richard and The Shadows to appear, but failed.
The full show still exists and clips have been included on various documentaries
over the years.
