TV Pop Diaries
Pop Music on British Television 1955 - 1999

Hosted by ex-Stars and Garters singing star Vince Hill, it was a kind of sequel to BBC's They Sold A Million. That show featured not only songs but stories behind them. This version kept that approach and gained some new technological advancements, notably the star's sidekick ERIC (Electronic Recall Information Collator). Computers had been used as sidekicks before, like Saturday morning's Ed and Zed. Hill was joined by The Young Generation as well as weekly musical guests, so it was only a gimmick that that separated this from other shows.

Each week Hill and the dancers would be joined by guests, clips from old musicals would be shown, and Hill would support all of this with trivia about the songs and the musicals they came from, like a computer.
