From TV Times "Six very different groups with six very different styles ranging from out-and-out pop to progressive, medium and heavy rock. That's the promise of this new six-week series."

It took nearly two years but Granada eventually followed up Doing Their Thing with a new show. The series was produced by Muriel Young and directed by Terry Henebery, with taping beginning April 10th. A Granada spokesman told Disc "If the format is successful, the series will be repeated and networked nationally." However, it appears only have been shown in the Granada area.

Six bands were chosen to play a thirty minute live set in the Granada studios in Manchester. Badfinger, Argent, Middle of the Road, Slade, Electric Light Orchestra (with Roy Wood) and Pentangle all pitched up to play. A Granada spokesman said "The Electric Light Orchestra are almost certain to appear and we're also hoping for T. Rex and the Who."

The Slade edition showed the band performing songs from their live show rather than just the hits so included The Lovin' Spoonful's Darling Be Home Soon and Steppenwolf's Born To Be Wild which would have come as a surprise to those who only knew the hits. The whole set can be found on their 2005 DVD compilation The Very Best of Slade, while some of the audio from the ELO set was released on the First Light compilation CD.

All the shows seem to exist.
