A franchised version of the popular Saturday morning American show which had been running since 1971. The UK version was actually titled 620 Soul Train, and was hosted by Jeffrey Daniel, late of Shalamar and at the time starring in the West End's Starlight Express.

This version featured the best of the ever-growing British Soul scene, video clips plus archive clips from the American original.

Part of The Tube's spring/summer replacement feature The Friday Zone it was co-produced by ex-Top of the Pops' Gordon Elsbury and was another show to feature Jonathan Ross and Alan Marke, later to form Channel X productions, amongst its production team.

The show was replaced by a look-a-like show called Solid Soul which ran for two seasons, 1986 and 1987.
